CHOOSING YOUR TOUR
We hope that your Shoestring tour will live up to your expectations so it is very important that you choose the right tour for you and our staff are always happy to advise and give you their professional opinion.
1. The contract
While booking a tour you confirm that you accept and understand, on behalf of yourself and all members of your party, our terms and conditions as well as the details that are part of this tour. You are responsible for entering the correct information on the booking form.
Your booking will be confirmed with the invoice that will be sent to you. The invoice is also the confirmation of the tour.
2. Paying for the Tour
After booking the tour on the internet, we will send you confirmation of your booking via email. A deposit of 25% of the full amount due must be paid within 7 days.
The full amount must be paid no less than 42 days before departure. The customer will be able to see their travel documents via their my.shoestring site, approximately 14-10 days prior to departure .
If you are booking a tour within 42 days of your departure, the full amount must be paid immediately after booking the tour. Payment must be made by direct bank transfer using the details given below. We do not accept payments by debit/credit card nor do we take cheques.

Please be sure to put your booking reference and invoice number as reference.
If the customer did not pay the deposit within 7 days of receiving the booking confirmation, and the full cost of the trip is not paid until 42 days before departure, Shoestring is allowed to cancel the contract after sending the customer a reminder stating a deadline by which the payment must be made. After the specified time limit runs out the customer is liable for the relevant cancellation fees.
3. Prices and contractual contents
The latest prices and descriptions of our products are on our website www.shoestring.com . All other publications are not valid.
4. Cancellation of the Tour - Changes or additions to your tour
If you want to change to a different tour (by date or destination) after the invoice has been issued, you will need to pay a fee of €75/ £60/ $85 per person. This fee is exclusive of any additional costs associated with this change.
Cancellation of your tour
If you or your party member decides to cancel the tour you must notify us by email to email@example.com
of the decision as soon as possible.
Any changes to your booking (e.g. cancellations) must be communicated to Shoestring by e-mail by the person who made the original booking and must be sent from the same e-mail address as that used to make the booking. Cancellation will take effect from the day we are notified by e-mail. A cancellation invoice will be sent to you within 14 days of us receiving your confirmation by e-mail. If you do not receive this cancellation invoice within 14 days, please contact us immediately in order to prevent an increase in charges. Simply not paying your invoice does not act as a notification of your intent to cancel.
- Up to 42 days before departure: 25%(the deposit will not be reimbursed)
- 41 – 28 days before departure: 60% (of the total tour cost)
- 27 – 7 days before departure: 90% (of the total tour cost)
- Less than 7 days before departure: 100% (of the total tour cost)
Cancellation of your tour before departure
Our tours have guaranteed departures from as few as two or more people but this can also mean that the minimum group size is just two people. A group of two people is not a valid reason for the traveller to cancel the tour without cost. We guarantee to be able to provide you with all the services we have confirmed to you at the time of booking. We plan arrangements for your tour meticulously and a long time in advance. On occasions changes do have to be made and we reserve the right to make these. Most of these changes are minor. However, if we consider them to be a SIGNIFICANT CHANGE we will endeavour to advise you as soon as is reasonably possible. A significant change includes a change of itinerary of more than two days, a change of transport during an important stretch of the tour or a change of flight time of more than 24 hours.
Whilst every effort is made to operate a tour as advertised, on occasion it may be necessary to make changes to the accommodation, routing or order of an itinerary.
Changes due to circumstances beyond our control
We will not be liable to pay any compensation if we are forced to cancel or in any way change your tour as a result of unusual or unforeseeable situations outside our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even with all due care. These include unavoidable technical problems with transport, changes imposed by rescheduling or cancellation of flights by an airline, the alteration of the airline or aircraft type, war or threat of war, civil strife, industrial disputes, natural disaster, bad weather, epidemic or terrorist activity.
If we cancel your tour
We reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your tour for any reason. However we will not cancel your tour of departure unless it is for a reason outside our control (see changes due to circumstances beyond our control). If your trip is unexpectedly cancelled, we will let you know at least three weeks prior to departure. If we have to cancel your tour we will offer you:
(a) alternative travel arrangements of equivalent or of very closely similar standard and price, if available.
(b) travel arrangements of a lower standard and a refund of the difference in price; or
(c) a full refund of all monies paid; this will take approximately 5 working days.
No compensation is payable if the tour is cancelled because the number of persons who agreed to take it is less than the minimum number required and you are informed of the cancellation in writing within the period indicated in the description of the package.
It is important that you have insurance cover and that this is adequate for your needs. Insurance covering medical costs, including the cost of medical repatriation is mandatory. You will need to arrange a policy yourself. Please check carefully to ensure that it provides a sufficient level of cover. For those who participate in sports and activities whilst on tour that have been organised and arranged independently of Shoestring, it should be understood that participation is at the individual’s own risk and it is your responsibility to obtain the relevant insurance. We also strongly recommend that you purchase cancellation insurance.
6. General requirements / Passports Visas / Health
You have to arrange your own visa(s): the cost is not included in the travel fees.
You will find detailed information on the Shoestring website. You are responsible for ensuring that your passport is valid and that you take it with you, also that you take the necessary travel information with you, have the vaccinations and insurance that you need and that you respect the laws, exchange control and customs regulations of the country you are visiting. Complications arising from your failure to respect these rules have to be resolved by yourself and any fees incurred as a result must to be paid by the customer.
By booking, you confirm that you and your party are in good health with no medical history that would make it dangerous to participate in the tour.
We will only accept responsibility for personal injury where it is caused by our negligence or the negligence of our suppliers and we do not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to property.
7. Our commitment for your tour arrangements
Shoestring undertakes the following tasks and responsibilities: a thorough travel preparation, a careful selection and monitoring of those rendering a service, the correctness of the service descriptions on the website www.shoestring.com and the provision of the contractually agreed services.
The traveller undertakes the following activities at his/her own risk and is fully liable for any injury or damage caused: walking and hill climbing, boating tours, voluntary trips, sporting activities and participating in any potentially high-risk adventure activities. Shoestring is only liable in case of intentional and/or gross negligence.
The liability for contractual damages which are not bodily harm is limited to the sum of two times the travel price, as long as Shoestring did not cause the bodily harm of a travel guest intentionally or by gross negligence.
If you have cause for complaint whilst on tour, you must bring it to the attention of tour operator or local agent immediately. We will do our best to rectify the situation as soon as possible.
If a problem remains unresolved during your tour, you should write a complaint by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
within one month of your return date (the last day of the journey that is mentioned in the contract is the binding date) of the completion of the tour. Please remember to quote your booking reference and daytime telephone number.

-For any queries regarding payments or how the Tailor made holidays process works, please contact Shoestring at email@example.com
