A special fact about Armenia is that less than 10% of the country is located at lower than 1000 meters. A mountain range, which is part of the South Caucasian massive, cuts Armenia in two parts. This mountain range has peaks above 4000 meters. At the Northeast side of Yerevan at an altitude of 1924 meters, one of the highest and deepest (99 meters) freshwater lakes of the world is situated. The lake was created as a result of a series of volcanic eruptions. Armenia is a very variable country and in the south you will find Armenia’s Grand Canyon.
