Frequently asked questions about our website

Below you will find a list of the most commonly asked questions about our site and booking your place(s) on a Shoestring group tour:

1)    How do I book my place(s) on one of your tours?

To confirm your place(s) simply go to the ‘dates & prices’ tab, select the ‘book’ button next to your chosen departure and proceed to complete the booking form.


2)    How can I take an option on one of your tours?

Sure! As long as we have more than 2 places available then you can take an option, holding your place(s) for a 7 day period. ‘Take an option’ is displayed below the ‘book’ button. Select this, complete a few details and your place(s) will be held.


3)    Can I also book my flights with Shoestring?

No, Shoestring is not able to offer international flight bookings via this site. You must arrange flights yourself. You can check for example Skyscanner or Expedia or visit an airlines site directly. If you would like any advice about convenient flights then please contact us.


4)    Does my trip have a guaranteed departure?

Every trip is subject to a minimum number of persons before it is guaranteed to proceed. This can be anything between 2 and 8 persons and it will be stated on each tour page. When a trip is guaranteed it is indicated with a green label next to the departure date. Again, in case of any doubt feel free to check with us first.


5)    What information can I find in myshoestring?

Myshoestring is where you will find important information about your tour and option/booking, including your departure letter and hotel list (10 days prior to departure).


6)    Do I have to pay my balance upfront?

If you are booking your tour outside of 42 days before departure then a deposit of 25% (of the full amount) is due within 7 days of receiving booking confirmation. If you place your booking within 42 days then the full amount will be due.


7)    Can I find out who else will be in my group?

Yes! Once your trip is guaranteed, visit the tour page and ‘dates & prices’ and you will find the group composition under the remarks section. Here you will find the gender, birth year and nationality of your fellow travellers.


8)    How do I know who my tour leader will be?

The tour leader information will be displayed on the tour page under ‘dates & prices’, ‘remarks’ and then ‘tour leader’. It will also be displayed within your myshoestring account (no later than 10 days before departure).


9)    Can I book in alternative currencies?

Yes, you can book your trip in Euros, GB Pounds or US Dollars. The currency menu is displayed top-centre of each page. You will not be able to change currency once booked and online payment (card transaction) is only possible for Euros and GB Pounds.


10)  Can I change my booking once it has been made?

This will depend upon the nature of the change and the proximity to travel. For example, we can still add an extra service such as an arrival transfer or pre-tour night once your booking has been made (provided we have enough time) but if you wished to change tour or departure date then we would have to cancel your existing booking first (at relevant charges) and then you should rebook. You can contact us for clarification of this.
