The population of Honduras is around 8.2 million and the population is made up of 90% mestizo (mixed Amerindian and European), 7% Amerindian (indigenous), 2% black, and 1% white.
Honduras has a significant Palestinian community (most of whom are Christian Arabs).They arrived in the country in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, establishing themselves and are now well integrated and indeed prominent in business, commerce, banking, industry, and politics. There is also an East Asian community, primarily of Chinese descent, and to a lesser extent Japanese. Some Korean, Ryukyuan, Vietnamese and Filipino peoples also make up a small percentage after having arrived in the 80s and 90s as contract workers. There are also approx. 1000 Sumos (or Mayangnas) that live in Honduras, the majority of whom reside on the Caribbean coast.
