Tipping Malaysia

In expensive restaurants and bars, a service charge and luxury tax is included on the bill, although tips are still expected. Be careful when ordering, as tax and service charges are usually not included in the price on the menu. If they are, you will see ‘++’ written after the price. In cheaper places, Malaysians do not leave tips, although if you are satisfied with the service, you can leave something extra. For room service attendants a tip of 1 ringgit per room per night is a nice gesture. The bus driver will also expect a tip for the time that he has driven you around, assuming his service has been satisfactory, same goes for your guide. Our guideline for this trip is € 1 per day per person.
