With cool summers and moderate winters, the Netherlands has a temperate maritime climate. It is a small country with little regional variation. Rain is distributed throughout the year but between April and September it is generally drier. The Netherlands is also a very flat country meaning that gales (strong winds) often occur, especially during autumn/winter.
