Luang Prabang - Rice Experience

After breakfast, your guide will take you out for a ‘Rice Experience’. Learn how rice is traditionally grown and produced in 13 very interactive steps!  All the steps are explained and demonstrated by the charming local employees and your active involvement will make for a fun and educational experience – the most spectacular of which involves plowing the paddy field with a buffalo named Susan!

After learning so much about this Lao staple, the last part of the experience of course has to be a tasting!  Sticky rice accompanied by a traditional dipping sauce, rice crackers and a couple of other local products made from the grain.

There are also other activities going on around you – traditional trades plied outside of the rice season. A blacksmith forges blades for reaping the harvest, and storage baskets are woven from natural materials. A stroll around the organic vegetable gardens is a pleasant way to finish off.

Tour schedule: 08:00-13:30

Includes: Transfer by tuktuk, English speaking guide

Vientiane - Temples & 'Secret War'

In the morning you will visit some of the highlights of Vientiane. The Wat Ho Phra Keow, the former 'home' of the Emerald Buddha is just beautiful. Wat Si Saket is the oldest temple in the city. You can enjoy a quiet walk around and the monks can often be seen playing a game of football. A famous landmark in Vientiane is the victory gate, the Patuxai. It is the Lao version of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and an ode to the Laotians who died in the wars preceding the Revolution.
In the afternoon visit the Pha That Luang, perhaps the most famous monument of the capital. This stupa is the symbol of Laos' independence and Buddhism. The story goes that Buddhist monks from India built this stupa in the third century, and that it contains a rib bone of Buddha. You'll also visit the COPE (Cooperative Orthotic and Prosthetic Enterprise) Visitor Centre. This center provides information about the many bombings of Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam War. COPE helps people who are victims of the "Secret War".

14:00 hrs: Back at the hotel
